I have now been in Australia for more than 7 weeks and I haven’t posted anything about it, I know I’m the worst blogger ever…
But to my defence I’ve simply just been too busy 🙂
This is the first day with crap weather, when I don’t have anything planned. Or actually I had, but because of the cyclon warning all boats to Whitsundays are cancelled 😦
So here I am, in Airlie beach and have nothing to do… Guess I will have to skip the trip everybody talks about (whitsundays) and save that for my next visit in Australia…
But do u know what that means? I have some time to update about my blog about my time in Aussie this far.
Brisbane and the Gold Coast
To start with I did the Bronze Medallion, the course you have to do to become a surf lifesaver here in OZ.
That was so much fun! Everyday we did boardpaddling, swam, ran and did heaps of other lifesaving stuf.
Most people stayed at the surf club over night so in the evening we watched movies, played beach soccer, went on bush-adventures and laughed a lot!
I also went home to Kates (from the course) place for a few days and got to experience an Aussie home and thanks to Kates family I had a really nice time!
When the Bronze was finished I went to surfers paradise for a couple of days and patroled the beach in Broadwater one day.
Sydney
Thereafter I flew down to Sarah in Sydney and stayed at her place for about 2 weeks. We did a lot of ocean swims, patroled a beach, celebrated Swedish and Austalian christmas, saw the fireworks on New Years eve in Sydney harbour and had LOTS of fun. During the time I also went to Blue Mountains and pretty much walked around in the national park for 2 days, it was beautiful and thanks to my camera I didnt feel too alone even though I was by my self, haha.
Tasmania
In beginning of January I went to Tasmania with Kajetan (German), Carola(Italian) and Tristan (Belgian) who I got to know though the group “Backpackers in Australia” on facebook.
We met up in Hobart and rented a car together, that truly is the best way of traveling!
We saw some of the worlds most beautiful beaches, lots of waterfalls, national parks. We truly had an adventure.
We even accidently managed to “steele” someone else´s backpack… To make the long story short- before we picked up the car in Hobart we put all our things in one big pile at the hostel. We met eachother one day before our roadtrip began and when we had picked up the car we went back to the hostel and just grabed everything in the pile. Since there were 4 backpacks in the pile it seamed to be right. The only problem was that Carola didnt have a backpack…
So when we found out what a big mistake we had done we called the hostel and the same day Elliot got reunited with his backpack.
Melbourne to Adelaide via Great Ocean Rd
After our roadtrip I flew directly to Melbourne and there I met Pia who I got to know in Bali! We managed to book the same hostel AGAIN whitout knowing about it. I was there during a heat wave so I didn´t do too much. But from what I saw it seamed to be a really nice place and if I go here on exchange year I think Melbourne might be a good place to study in.
Pia, I and Lejla (from Sweden, who I got to know through Sarah in Sydney) rented a car in Melbourne and drove via Great Ocean Rd to Adelaide. We stoped at all placed you are supposed to stop at and some more 🙂
We stoped at a lot of beaches, swam, saw wild kangaroos, koalas and emus, had BBQs, saw the twelve apostles and in the end we went to Grampians national park, though becuase of a huge bushfire the entire national park was closed 😦
Cairns
To start with I went with Prodive on a liveaboard boat on the Great Barrier reef for three days. We did 11 dives, saw sharks, turtles and heaps of other fish.
If I compare Great Barrier reef to Bali and Egypt (Red sea) I dont think it was that spectacular as everybody sais. It was different, here there were more sharks and turtles, but less of other fish as for example morays, lion fish, manta rays and dolphins.
But this wasn’t all, on Australia day I went on a waterfall tour to tablelands south of Cairns. There I met some awesome people from Melbourne who I ended up spending the entire day with. We swam in waterfalls, slid down for waterfall slides, saw mini turtles, a platypus and had a great time out in Cairns in the evening.
The day after I went on a tour up to Daintree national park which was good, but not even close to beeing as good as the waterfall tour.
In the night I went on the greyhound bus down to Airlie beach where I am now.
Airlie Beach
As I said my trip to Whitsundays is cancelled…
So I’m moving on to Town of 1770 tonight and hope for better luck from now and on.
From now and on I will try my best to update the blog a bit more often! 🙂
